Big Dogs, based in Santa Barbara, California, was a chain of stores in the United States which featured clothing and apparel holding the "Big Dogs" brand name. Since October 2010 it offers all products only via their company website. The company produces apparel in a variety of sizes for men, women, and children.
On the first Saturday in June the company used to host an annual "Big Dog Parade and Canine Festival" as their corporate charity fundraiser. People from all over were encouraged to bring their dogs to participate in and to watch the parade, taking place in downtown Santa Barbara, California (near the corporate headquarters and the flagship store) beginning at the intersection of State and De la Guerra Streets. The parade wound its way down State St., toward the West Beach, ending at the Canine Festival at Old Chase Palm Park.
Participants (and occasionally spectators) dressed themselves and their canine pals in costumes. Prizes were often given for Best in Parade, Best Costume, and Most Humorous Costume, among others. The parade's proceeds went towards the Big Dog Foundation, which "benefits dogs, children, and dogs that help people."
Big Dogs shirts offer sizes up to 5XL with witty sayings such as "Talk Slower, I Don't Speak Stupid" and "Big Dogs Rules #1: Mom is the Boss, Rule #2: See Rule Number 1."
In early 2004, Big Dog Holdings, Inc. was acquired by The Walking Company, a retailer of footwear. This company was well known for its sandal and flip flop selection.
